WHAT IS SWIFT®?

Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the treatment of all types of verrucae in Podiatry. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.

DOES IT HURT?

It is not uncommon for patients to feel a sharp sensation, similar to an injection. Unlike most treatments for verruca, pain felt during the treatment quickly subsides, and only in rare cases is there any prolonged pain.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER TREATMENT?

In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

You will require three treatments four weeks apart then a further appointment after 12 weeks to assess if the Verruca has resolved . On rare occasions a further treatment maybe required.

CAN ANYONE RECEIVE THIS TREATMENT?

Most people with Verrucae are able to have this treatment. Your podiatrist will assess, discuss and advise you accordingly.
Causes:
Verrucae is a communicable condition. It mainly occurs when someone comes in contact with the virus. When left untreated, this contagious foot problem can spread to other parts of the body, as well as to other people.
Following are preventative steps:
  • Don't touch another person’s verrucae
  • Don't scratch or pick your verrucae to prevent it from spreading
  • Try not to share towels, socks and shoes with others
  • Don't walk barefoot in communal showers
  • Keep the verrucae covered during swimming, using a waterproof plaster.
Often difficult to get rid of, a verrucae is a viral skin infection caused by the Human papilloma virus which relies on your immune system to recognise, react and destroy it.
