what is Plantar Fasciitis?

Your plantar fascia is a strong ligament that stretches from your heel bone to the heads of your five metatarsals bones. It supports the architecture of your foot and also acts as a shock-absorber.
  • Patients often report a painful stabbing sensation especially when they take their first steps in the morning or after rest. It is one of the most common causes of heel pain and can affect different age groups and can be caused by:
  1. people on their feet all day
  2. hormonal changes (pregnant mothers & adolescence)
  3. weight gain
  4. overuse / sports injuries.

shockwave therapy is highly effective...

also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

Shockwave therapy is a highly effective and non invasive treatment that reduced pain and encourages healing.

Measured pulsed of kinetic energy are applied to the damaged tissues and this promotes healing via:
  • increases blood flow to the area
  • stimulates cell regeneration and healing
  • decreases local factors which cause pain

how does shock wave work for platar fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis Clinic Cardiff
Shockwave pain relief therapy delivers a low energy microwave directly onto the skin that covers the affected area. Shockwave therapy is therefore a targeted type of therapy, only treating the musculoskeletal areas that are affected.

You may experience some light pressure,  small pulses against the skin when we move the device over the area that requires treatment. Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin beforehand to help transmit the shockwaves through the skin.

It will stimulate blood flow to the area, and you might feel a little pain or discomfort in the treatment area during the procedure. In the next few days after treatment your body will work to naturally heal the swelling and redness in the treated area, and in doing so, stimulates the repair and muscle, musculoskeletal regeneration of cells.

You will soon experience that the damaged tissues start to repair and as a result the associated pain will start reducing.
