What happens during a podiatry appointment for Verruca ....
  • Firstly on your initial appointment, we make notes regarding your general medical history, including your general health and lifestyle requirements.
  • Please bring along a list of medication you are currently taking & let us know if you have any known allergies.
  • In the initial consultation assessment we will thoroughly inspect your feet & discuss pain levels & other symptoms you are experiencing.
  • Please know that you do NOT need a GP referral, to have a consultation and/or take a treatment plan with us.
Standard plan for the application of microwave therapy for Verrucae:
1st Treatment - After documenting your medical history and current medication your Podiatrist will gently remove any hard skin that may be overlying the verrucae, this is necessary for the full effectiveness of the treatment. After that the infected area will receive very short applications of the Swift microwave therapy via the hand held device (usually 2 seconds, 5 times)

2nd Treatment - This will occur approximately 4 weeks after your first treatment. Usually there is minimal apparent change to the appearance of the verrucae at this stage. Once again any build up of hard skin over the verrucae will be gently removed and very short applications of the microwave therapy will be applied to the area.

3rd Treatment - Again this will occur after a 4 week interval and will be the final application of microwave therapy for 12 weeks. Often at this point in the treatment plan we can already see some resolution or improvement in the verrucae (sometimes they have disappeared already) Overlying hard skin will be removed again and the microwave therapy will be applied.

After a 12 week gap you will return for an assessment. It is during this time the majority of patients report either complete resolution or a marked improvement in their verrucae as their bodies immune system has been activated against the verrucae . Once this occurs resolution continues and there is no further need for treatment however in some circumstances an extra treatment maybe required for particularly stubborn cases but this will be discussed with you.
